The Wombats - Recording + Live Sound

The event was pretty straight forward, set-up PA, mixing desk, recording equipment, microphones for the panel and those asking questions. All went smoothly but of course there was a lot of press there including photographers and camera crews making the job a little frustrating when you have to remind these people to shut up all the time and to keep out of your way. Still it wasn't that bad at all.

I actually snook off for half an hour after I was set-up and made my way to the main hall where the band where the band were sound checking. The main hall is an amazing place, which has just invested in a new sound system which sounds pretty damn good. The hall has such an amazing natural decay which lasts just over a second. If you havn't been in there then I suggest you keep your eyes out for tickets for something and get yourself down there. One of the most distinguishing features of the hall is not on the outside but on the inside. On the ceiling. You'll notice that there appears to be a large in-festation of 'mushrooms'. These are in fact as far as I know, there to provide better acoustic treatment for the hall. Such live venues like the Royal Albert Hall, which put on thousands of shows a year, tend to be finally tuned in order to give amazing quality in sound.

I look forward to the next one!
